Biomaterials Lab Day at Howard W. Bishop Middle School 2016
The Allen Research Group spent two days hosting the first annual Biomaterials Days at Howard Bishop Middle School. The goal of Biomaterials Day was to inspire middle school students to investigate careers in science, technology, engineering, and math. Students were introduced to the concept of biomaterials and demonstrated the importance of engineering materials for medicine. Dr. Allen, along with graduate students, Vidhya Ramaswamy, Elliott Dirr, Krista Dulany, and Allison Goins lead over 100 6th grade students in an in-class “kitchen science” lab on the creation and characterization of a biomaterial.
This event is scheduled to take place twice a year, in fall and spring, and is funded by the National Science Foundation.
